Alex Harris drops another single from his upcoming album in the form of the R&B classic, “Ain’t No Love In The Heart Of The City,” which was first recorded by Bobby ‘Blue’ Bland for his 1974 Dreamer album. Harris opts for a populist version instead of a romantic one recorded by so many others. He carries some of the same heft and soul in his voice as Bland’s did for a new generation. The video is a timely storyline reflective of so much going on in the United States currently. Harris makes sure that his performance is for the people and by the end of the video he gives them hope. He explained this purpose in a press statement:
“Ain’t No Love (In the Heart of the City)’ is a timeless classic by Bobby ‘Blue’ Bland that resonates with me for several reasons. First, it’s lyrically genius, and second, it highlights the importance of showing love to people and places around the world that are too often forgotten. The song remembers—and laments—the marginalized and disenfranchised communities. It’s always been important to me to use my God-given gift of music to uplift humanity and remind us all that we were created to love. It’s good for the soul.”
“Ain’t No Love” is the latest single to emerge from Harris’ forthcoming sophomore album coming out early next year. “Better,” featuring Conya Doss, was the first preview of his new project that follows his stunning Back To Us debut that was released in 2024.
