Daryl Hall and John Oates had success with their 1984 12th studio album Big Bam Boom led by the hit status of the first single “Out Of Touch.” Oates believed the song would be better suited for The Stylistics after he wrote the chorus. He was convinced by a producer to use the song for Hall & Oates and the final version became their 14th Top 40 song. The duo’s brilliant approach to R&B had newly found synthesizers, rock and pop influences supporting Daryl Hall’s Philly-soul trained vocals. The spectacle of the two of them being run over by a bass drum in the video was one of their indelible visual moments that helped put the song into popular memory. Big Bam Boom was their last super succesful album of the ’80s. Hall & Oates are part of a rare club of white artists to be respected by R&B audiences while achieving pop stardom. Big Bam Boom was remastered and reissued in 2004 with four bonus tracks. Hall & Oates last studio recording was their 2006 Home For Christmas album. They released their Live In Dublin album in 2017 making it their 11th live release.
