Throwback: Troop-Spread My Wings

Steve Russell, Allen McNeil, John Harreld, Rodney Benford and Reggie Warren are childhood friends from Pasadena,California. Their careers as the band Troop started after they won a talent contest and signed a deal with Atlantic Records. They were immediately successful with the release of their self-titled debut album in 1988 because of the popular single “Mamacita.” Attitude was their second album and it reached platinum status because of “Spread My Wings,” “All I Do Is Think Of You,” “I’m Not Soupped” and “That’s My Attitude.” Deepa was their third album released in ’92 and known for the Babyface penned “Sweet November.”Their fourth and fifth studio albums A Lil Sumpin’ Sumpin’ and Mayday were released independently in ’94 and ’98. The band took a break and regrouped in 2004 and finished a sixth album as they continue to tour. Steve Russell is actively involved in the industry as a songwriter for artists like Chris Brown and Jordin Sparks.
