Black History Month Gala Honors Tre Armstrong


Choreographer, Actress, Dancer and Mentor, Tre Armstrong will receive the prestigious “Success, Engagement, Empowerment Award” at the 3rd Annual Black History Month Gala, Saturday, February 4, 2012, in Ottawa. This prestigious award is given to those who reach out and make a difference in communities around the world and at home. Ms. Armstrong epitomizes these values. The “So You Think You Can Dance Canada” Judge works tirelessly through the Tre Armstrong Give Back Foundation, teaching youth through dance and workshops the importance of feeling good about themselves, not letting the past hold them hostage, but allowing the future to set them free. Tre’s vision, spirit and strength are a guiding light to those around her, at home and abroad. Ms. Armstrong is deeply honored and humbled to receive this award. Other guests will include the 27th Governor General of Canada, Her Excellency the Right Honorable Michaelle Jean, Mr. Jean- Daniel Lafond and his Royal Highness, Prince Seeiso Bereng Seeiso of Lesotho. The always-busy Ms. Armstrong, will return to the nations capital to take part in Fashion Week. (Feb.17-19) Tre along with fellow celebrities will walk the runway for a special fashion show, Sunday, February 19th, 2012, in support of Fashion Week’s charitable partner, UNICEFF CANADA. Tré Armstrong and The Spoke Club Present Spirit Of Dance

Tré Armstrong has propelled her passion for dance, her work ethic and her spirit into a successful career. The in demand choreographer, actress and TV personality is a proven entity in the entertainment industry, working with some of music industries biggest artists. And now, for Tré the journey continues. On August 15th, Tre’, together with The Spoke Club, will launch the “Tré Armstrong Give Back Foundation” a registered not-for-profit operating foundation. Its mission is clear, to make dance and creative artistic expression accessible to the youth across Canada, that may otherwise not have the opportunity, and to inspire their artistic hopes, dreams and passions. Dance empowers you and Tré wants to give that empowerment to all youth, regardless of their circumstances and in some cases, because of just who they are! The Foundation will focus on developing life skills through enjoyable youth programming and performing arts at the community level alongside educational classes and seminars, promoting continued learning along with the development of key life and social skills. The Tré Armstrong Give Back Foundation believes every child should be allowed to explore their inner “spirit of dance.”

So You Think You Can Dance Canada’s Tre’ Armstrong Gives Back

Choreographer, actress and TV personality, Tre’ Armstrong has a busy summer ahead of her. Not only is Tre’ returning as a judge on CTV’s “So You Think You Can Dance Canada” Monday June 20th, her not-for-profit foundation, “The Tre Armstrong Give Back Foundation,” is preparing for a very special event, A New DAEI, presents, “THE GIVE BACK!!!!” A one-day free event put on by Tre’s Dance Company A New Dance Academy for the Entertainment Industry held to make dance and creative artistic expression accessible to people across Canada and to inspire people to pursue their artistic hopes, dreams and passions. Some of the dance and movement styles that will be offered at this event will be Hip Hop, Jazz, Ballet, Bollywood, Salsa, Cha Cha, Contemporary & more!!! Also teaching alongside Tre’ will be some of CTV’s “So You Think You Can Dance Canada” Top 20 competitors, including finalist and runner-up, Amanda Cleghorn. Any donations at the event will go to The Tre’ Armstrong Give Back Foundation and proceeds will go to Dance Performing Arts Programming across Canada. The event takes place, Sunday July 10th, at Canada’s National Ballet School, 400 Jarvis street, Toronto.

Tre’s love and understanding of urban dance and hip-hop has brought out the inner teacher in the artist and has allowed her to travel the world sharing this knowledge through workshops, seminars and classes in hip-hop, urban and freestyle dance, and now, it’s time to give back and Tre’ is bringing it home.

Tré’s competence and work ethic has made her a “go to” choreographer for various artists, including Sean “Diddy” Combs, Kreesha Turner, Sarah Brightman, Jason Derulo, So You Think You Can Dance Canada, MTV, and the just completed choreography for Ludacris’ new Breakaway music video. And now, the talented artist brings, not only her dance skills, but life skills to the participating youth, firmly believing, by instilling confidence through performing arts, there is no stopping what they can accomplish. Life is a journey and the responsibility of all of us.
