The Last Dragon is a 1985 martial arts cult classic produced by Berry Gordy’s Motown and directed by Michael Schultz. Taimak, Vanity, Julius J. Carry starred in the film that reflected urban culture’s ongoing interest in martial arts and Bruce Lee. Taimak’s journey to martial arts mastery as main character Bruce Leroy entertained with the help of Julius J. Carry’s villainous Sho’nuff and Vanity’s vixen power as Laura Charles. Fans admitted to the cheesiness of the film but still enjoyed watching Leroy achieve his glowing ascendance over Sho-nuff as one of the favored pop culture moments of the ’80’s. The soundtrack featured music from Debarge, Smokey Robinson, Syreeta, Stevie Wonder, Willie Hutch, Rockwell and Vanity. Taimak has appeared at special screenings of The Last Dragon this year to commemorate its 30th anniversary.
