Throwback: Salt-N-Pepa-Shoop

Salt-N-Pepa-Very-Necessary

[youtube id=”4vaN01VLYSQ”] “Shoop” was one of the songs to lead Salt-N-Pepa’s fourth album Very Necessary to multi-platinum success. Salt and Pepa co-wrote “Shoop” and Mark Sparks and Salt produced the song. R.Kelly, A Tribe Called Quest, Keith Sweat, Blackstreet, Jodeci and Johnny Gill all appeared in the video shot at Coney Island in Brooklyn. They had already approached the subject of sex on their previous album with the single, “Let’s Talk About Sex” but “Shoop” “None Of Your Business” and “Whatta Man” evolved the conversation. Their sexy image and shameless approach to the physical side of relationships paved the way for the explicit styles to come from Lil’ Kim and Nicki Minaj. “None Of Your Business” received the first Grammy for women rappers and Very Necessary made them the first women in rap to sell more than a million copies of an album. In 2016 “Shoop” reached another generation because of its placement in the superhero movie Deadpool. Salt-N-Pepa’s 2016 tour starts March 25th in Charleston, West Virginia.
