MTV announced plans to reboot the show earlier this year and the concert was a prelude to the show’s return. MC Lyte, Positive K, KRS-One, Big Daddy Kane, Fat Joe, EPMD, Onyx, Brand Nubian, Eric B & Rakim, Yo-Yo, Special Ed, Pharcyde, DAS EFX, Black Sheep, Nice & Smooth, Kool Moe Dee, Doug E. Fresh and Kool G. Rap were there and transported the audience back to the ’80s and ’90s.

He had already rapped about the subject with former First Priority labelmate MC Lyte on their 1988 collaboration “I Ain’t Havin’ It.” Positive K’s voice was altered by studio technology and he became the woman’s voice constantly reminding him that “I Got A Man.” The Skills Dat Pay Da Bills was released on Island Records and had Big Daddy Kane and Jazzy Jay among its producers. The album did not climb the charts but became an underground classic of the ’90s. In 2017, Positive K and Greg Nice released their Gr8te Mindz album.
