Oprah Winfrey Accepts Cecile B. DeMille Award At The Golden Globes Awards

[youtube id=”LyBims8OkSY”] Oprah Winfrey became the first Black woman to receive the Cecile B. DeMille Award at The Golden Globes ceremony last night. Her acceptance speech started with an ode to Sidney Poitier who was the first Black person to accept the honor in 1982 and then she acknowledged the responsibility of representation and the industry’s current coming-out about sexism.

Oprah referenced Recy Taylor, the Black woman from Alabama who was gang-raped by six white men in 1944. Taylor’s attackers were never convicted despite their confessions after an investigation spearheaded by Rosa Parks. Taylor passed last month shortly before her 98th birthday and Oprah used her story to the history of women being violated. Her speech rallied for the #MeToo Movement and a new world without sexism. This morning while the hype surrounding her appearance was still high, anonymous sources told the media that Oprah is seriously thinking about running for president in 2020.
