Nate Parker’s American Skin Has New Artwork

Nate Parker’s American Skin has new artwork designed by Gravillis that adds to the onscreen story. Parker wrote, directed and stars in the film about a Black Iraqi veteran who can’t get justice from the system after his only child is murdered by a white police officer. Things become unbearable for Parker’s character and he decides to get his own justice in an unorthodox but chilling way. Parker used the killing of Mike Brown in Missouri in 2014 for direction in the story. It was the division between protestors advocating for Brown and those defending the police that further inspired the film. Omari Hardwick, Vanessa Bell Calloway and Milauna Jackson star in the movie. American Skin will be a VOD release scheduled for a January 15th debut.

Spike Lee Presents Nate Parker’s New Film American Skin

Nate Parker returns with a new movie about the question of justice when the issue is police brutality. American Skin was inspired by the 2014 death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mississippi who was fatally shot by police officer Darren Wilson. Parker traveled to Ferguson and saw the protests of groups who were furious with the police and those that supported their unchallenged authority. The tension between the two made Parker realize a disconnect in understanding the role of citizenship, law enforcement and the responsibility to preserve life in American society.

His character is an Iraqui war veteran who witnesses his son and only child get killed by the police and goes on a vigilante type mission for justice. Parker, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Milauna Jackson and Omari Hardwick are members of the cast. American Skin follows Parker’s 2016 directorial debut The Birth Of A Nation where he played the late slave rebellion leader Nat Turner.

American Skin will be available on January 15th as a VOD feature.

This is the latest poster from Nate Parker’s The Birth Of A Nation movie. The image debuted on Tidal yesterday and people are responding to Parker as Nat Turner with a noose around his neck made of an American flag. The response to the film when it hits theaters on October 7th, will be interesting because of all the racial tension in the country right now regarding police brutality.
