Throwback: MC Lyte: Cha Cha Cha

MC Lyte’s “Cha Cha Cha” was the single that introduced her second studio album, Eyes on This. King of Chill wrote “Cha Cha Cha” with MC Lyte, and he produced its futuristic sound. Lyte’s distinct alto  asserted her lyrical mastery and triumph over lesser rappers. She dissed all contenders with a precise flow that was more focused on her audience than inviting a rival to a battle.  The video and the album cover for Eyes on This have become iconic for their early depictions of New York City and Golden Era rap.

MC Lyte Says Thank You Feat. Muni Long & Mary Mary (Official Video)

MC Lyte shares the video for the spiritually-focused “Thank You” featuring Mary Mary and Muni Long. The single is Lyte’s celebration of God and gratitude for all the positive things that have come from her belief in a higher power. The video is a direct throwback to her classic clip for “Paper Thin.” Like the “Paper Thin” video, Lyte reflects and remembers her younger self in the video, which takes place in a New York City subway car.  She previously shared “Woman,” featuring Salt, Big Daddy Kane, and Raheem DeVaughn. Both singles will appear on Lyte’s first album in nine years, 1 of 1, which is due before the end of 2024. MC Lyte was recently celebrated at the Black Music Honors back in May.
