Motown Records’ Digital Release Of Martin Luther King Jr.’s March On Washington

Motown Records has released Martin Luther King Jr.’s March On Washington digitally for the first time. The Great March On Washington was recorded on August 23, 1963, on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. Dr. King delivered his famous I Have A Dream speech during the March On Washington for Jobs and Freedom.

The digital release of The March On Washington coincides with TIME and executive producer Viola Davis inviting the public to go back in history with THE MARCH- a VR museum exhibit that recreates the March On Washington and allows visitors to experience the I Have A Dream Speech. The exhibit at the DuSable Museum of African American History in Chicago runs through November 2020. Additional locations will be announced and tickets can be purchased here.

BJ The Chicago Kid has used his inspiration from Dr. King and this time in history to write the song “The People” with Jairus Mozee which can be streamed and downloaded here.

Ethiopia Habtemariam, President of Motown Records and Executive Vice President of Capitol Records recently spoke with Elvis Mitchell, host of KCRW’s “The Treatment” about what Dr. King’s speeches mean to her.

The Great March On Washington also includes the speech made that day by A. Phillip Randolph who was one of the organizers of the Great March and a noted civil rights and labor union rights activist. Randolph introduces the day’s other speakers including Walter Reuther, president of the United Auto Workers, Roy Wilkins executive secretary of the NAACP and Whitney M. Young, Jr. the executive director of the National Urban League.
