Robert Glasper, 9th Wonder, Kamasi Washington and Terrace Martin have released an album as Dinner Party. The jazz, hip-hop, soul project has a comfort zone between 9th Wonder’s production and the live approach from the musicians and guest singers. The warm vibes of the album address love and the current strife in the country around the response to police brutality. The friends and colleagues chose the Dinner Party moniker to reflect years of friendship, conversations over dinner and working together.

Kamasi Washington Releasing New EP Premieres Video For Truth

[youtube id=”rtW1S5EbHgU”] Earlier this year Kamasi Washington debuted a six-movement suite at the Whitney Biennial. The full piece will be the music of his Harmony And Difference EP coming out this summer. The video for “Truth” is all about the differences in people and there are scenes of all kinds of people living their everyday lives. Washington described his new musical project in the following statement:

“My hope is that witnessing the beautiful harmony created by merging different musical melodies will help people realize the beauty in our own difference.”

Washington is will be on tour throughout the spring and summer.




Kamasi Washington Full Concert On KEXP

[youtube id=”sqzFm3erSJc”] Kamasi Washington and his band gave a performance of “Re Run” and “The Rhythm Changes” in the KEXP studios last month. Washington’s profile has risen since his appearance on Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly. Washington released his debut album, The Epic, in 2015 on Flying Lotus’ Brainfeeder label. He will appear with Miles Mosley and The West Coast Get Down on January 28th at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles.
