Johnny Burgos Releases All I Wonder

Johnny Burgos’ All I Wonder has dropped and the Brooklyn singer, songwriter, and producer has collaborated with producer Jeremy Page to bring his latest collection of classic soul to fruition. Burgos’ candied falsetto and warm tenor is at home with Page’s methods which are a composite of styles from the ’70s to the present. Album opener “Play For Keeps” is a mesmerizing ballad filed under The Dramatics meets A Tribe Called Quest with Burgos’ pipes bearing some semblance to El DeBarge.  The past/present/future aesthetic is noticeable again with “Get Back” where a dreamy melody and a Dillaesque beat encircle Burgos’ suave promises of love. Slow dance songs do not always represent the makings of romantic relationships—the sunny “This Vibe” curses insecurity and emotional barriers with busy rhythms and a nifty bass. Burgos’ reconstruction of Neil Young’s “Old Man” follows the ways of The Isley Brothers by casting a folk-rock classic into the soul music canon. All I Wonder carries all of the pain and romantic aspirations so many have felt making Burgos’ newest album another testament to the redemptive power of a good R&B album.

Johnny Burgos Takes Advantage Of The Night In Video For Picture Perfect

[youtube id=”N1XwUDsFTz8″]Brookyln crooner Johnny Burgos uses night time as the backdrop to his “Picture Perfect” video. He dances in the street and scenes of a parking structure, school bus and bodega fly by as he moves. Burgos explained the idea behind “Picture Perfect”:

“Picture perfect is about me coming to the realization that ‘real love’ is flawed, and despite what pop culture and society tells us, it’s supposed to be. It’s about acknowledging how dope it is to be 100% down for someone, through the depths of life’s lows and most complicated times, simply because what you feel for that person, makes them worth the sacrifices. To me, that feeling is love.

Burgos’ debut EP, Through It All will come out via Roc Nation this summer.

Listen: Johnny Burgos’ Set Yourself Free

Johnny Burgos’ new single “Set Yourself Free” is about going beyond the usual limits of passion within a murky mix of blues-inspired guitar and light percussion. Frans Mernick produced “Set Yourself Free” with Burgos who once made beats in the past for hip-hop groups Mobb Deep and M.O.P. “Set Yourself Free” will be on the Brooklyn singer’s debut EPLove Through It All which will come out later this year on Soulspazm.
