Throwback: India.Arie-Little Things

India.Arie’s “Little Things” was an ode to life’s immaterial delights. The feel of cotton, a phonecall and peace were celebrated as the true sustainers of life in Arie’s words. As the first single, “Little Things” introduced her sophomore album Voyage To India to the public. She had the same grace and timeless concerns as her 2001 Acoustic Soul debut.  Her syrupy contralto calmed heads and slayed anxiety with her unfeigned reminders of the most important things about the human experience. Voyage To India won R&B Album of the Year at the Grammys and “Little Things” won Best Urban/Alternative Performance. India.Arie’s seventh studio album Worthy was released in 2019. In 2021, she celebrated the 20th anniversary of Acoustic Soul and she appeared on the single “We Started A Song” with Melanie Polinar.

There will also be an all-star video version of the song “L.O.V.E.(Let One Voice Emerge)” previously composed and recorded by Austin, Garrett and others for the Voter Participation Center voter registration campaign in 2013.

Austin, who is the brainchild behind TWIST, says the campaign is to remind voters particularly women of the historic power they have to make a difference especially in light of September 18, 2020, passing of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She says, “We’ve all got incredible stories about a school teacher, our mother, or her mother, or just other powerful women that influence our lives. We’ve got this election coming up. We have the power of the world in our hands, given to us by the women who came before us.”

Patti Austin, Tammy McCrary, Julie Bergman and Gwendolyn Quinn are the producers of TWIST2020.
