John Yancey follows Illa J’s 2017 album HOME and both are produced by Calvin Valentine. The previous album was all about his life in Detroit but John Yancey is centered on his time in California, relationships and the grief he still feels over the passing of his brother J.Dilla. Calvin Valentine offers another preview of his Keep Summer Safe debut album with the single “Vhs” featuring Illa J. The funky track has Valentine rapping about green tea, chronic and his friends. The two worked together previously on Illa J’s Home album and Valentine has built his resume producing for Nas, De La Soul, Juicy J and more. Keep Summer Safe comes out September 14th.

The camera follows him through a stretch of 7 mile that includes his high school (Pershing) and a bunch of mom and pop businesses.

Illa J sings a loving dedication to his mother Maureen Yancey on his latest single “Maureen.” The lady known as Ma Dukes to the world is acknowledged for her unconditional support, her wisdom and courage. Illa J’s Home has its official release on June 30th.
