Raoul Peck’s I Am Not Your Negro documentary about James Baldwin is doing well at the box office and has a new promotional campaign led by Janelle Monae. The Know Your Baldwin piece features a variety of people including Monae, Common, Samuel L. Jackson, Lupita Nyong’o and more reciting lines from Baldwin’s work and reminding you to ‘Know Your Baldwin.’ If you haven’t seen the film you can find tickets here.




I Am Not Your Negro Official Trailer

Magnolia Pictures released the official trailer for I Am Not Your Negro, the documentary about James Baldwin. Raoul Peck directed the film based off of a book Baldwin never finished.  Remember This House was Baldwin’s last book project and it was about the lives and murders of his friends Medgar Evers, Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. I Am Not Your Negro is Peck’s attempt to finish Remember This House by examining race using Baldwin’s words. I Am Not Your Negro will be in theaters February 3rd and tickets can be purchased from the film’s official site.

Director Raoul Peck uses Baldwin’s unfinished manuscript for his last book Remember This House to shape the film. Baldwin’s book was supposed to offer his thoughts on the murders of his friends Malcolm X, Medgar Evers and Martin Luther King Jr. and the state of race in America. Samuel L. Jackson narrates the film that debuted at the Toronto Film Festival this year. I Am Not Your Negro will be in theaters February 3rd, 2017.




James Baldwin Film I Am Not Your Negro To Debut At Toronto Film Festival

Director Raoul Peck will debut his James Baldwin film, I Am Not Your Negro at the Toronto Film Festival next month. The film is based on a book idea Baldwin had centered around the deaths of Malcolm X, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Medgar Evers all of whom were murdered. The author only completed 30 pages of notes that were sent to his literary agent. Unfortunately, Baldwin passed in 1987 before the book could be finished. Peck’s film is rooted in Baldwin’s notes and explores his life and thoughts about race in America. I Am Not Your Negro will be narrated by Samuel L. Jackson and appear at the New York Film Festival in October.
