Fly Anakin Drops The Times From (The) Forever Dream

Fly Anakin’s “The Times” is produced by Mono En Stereo and it’s on his forthcoming album, (The) Forever Dream. The Richmond, Virginia, rapper collaborated with Quelle Chris, who executive-produced the new album. Pink Siifu, BbyMutha, The Alchemist, Turich Bengy, and more appear on Anakin’s sophomore studio album. His Mutant Academy brothers Big Kahuna OG and Sycho Sid also have verses to share. Since 2020, Anakin has been in a race to become an underground legend with the release of a joint project with Pink Siifu, FlySiifu’s. He had been recording since 2014 but FlySiifu’s was a breakthrough moment. In 2022, his studio debut Frank arrived to critical acclaim. The millenial rapper has stood out because of his proud influences from people like Ghostface Killah and Sean Price. He raps more like a Gen Xer instead of the drowsy triplet flow so popular among his peers and Gen Zers. Check out the Phillip Youmans-directed visualizer for “The Times” and look for (The) Forever Dream on April 25th via Lex Records.

Richmond, Virginia rap collective Mutant Academy releases their Talk Soon EP. The group consists of Fly Anakin and Henny L.O. who started the group more than a decade ago has grown to include Big Kahuna OG, Ohbliv, Graymatter, Foisey, ewonee, Sycho Sid, and Unlucky Bastards. Their beats and rhymes hearken back to a ’90s sound with soulful music beds and East Coast flows. The EP is short at four songs but they make up for brevity with memorable music and no filler. Talk Soon was released on Roc Nation’s Equity Distribution. Stream the EP and see the video for “SODA.”

Fly Anakin Releases Skinemaxxx (Side B)

Fly Anakin’s Skinemaxxx (Side B) is out now via Lex Records. The album is the second part of Skinemaxxx (Side A) which was released earlier this year. Anakin’s urgent tales about women and being an artist are lifted up into cinematic territory thanks to Foisey’s soul-sampled production. The album has the aura of ’90s underground New York hip-hop which owes its debt to Anakin’s love of the late Sean Price.  The eight-song tracklisting includes the previously shared “Intrepid” and “Things Change” featuring London-based singer-songwriter Demae. The Noah Porter-directed video for “Blain Pitch” was released today too. The video incorporates Anakin’s humor with superstar doppelgangers and his mugging for the camera. Fly Anakin is feeling a lot of inspiration with the Skinemaxxx series coming a year after his Frank debut album in 2022.

Fly Anakin Announces Skinemaxxx EPs

Fly Anakin is releasing his Skinemaxxx EP later this year and the Foisey producer for Mutant Academy exclusively produced all of the music.  The first single is “Blicky Bop” and Anakin already has a video for it directed by Jeremy Green.  The EP is the first of two installments he made with Foisey. The rapper’s Frank debut album came out in 2022 and he recently shared a Madlib remix of “No Dough” from the album.  Skinemaxxx (Side A) will come out on April 5th but can be pre-ordered now. Watch the video for “Blicky Bop.”
