Blood Orange Is Releasing Angel’s Pulse (Trailer)

[youtube id=”Wrj7buVKgig”]Blood Orange is releasing a new mixtape called Angel’s Pulse what he calls an “epilogue” to  last year’s Negro Swan.” The tape comes out this Friday, July 12th and he released a statement about the new music:

“My new record is called Angel’s Pulse & I performed, produced, and mixed the entire thing myself. I’m calling it a mixtape. I have a habit through the years of making records that I just give to friends, or on tape to people on the street or no one. Usually, this material is made directly after the album I’ve just put out. Somewhat of an epilogue to the thing I’ve made before. This time… I decided to release it.

I put as much work and care into it as I do with the albums I’ve released, but for some reason trained myself into not releasing things the rate at which I make them. I’m older now though, and life is unpredictable and terrifying… so here you go, mates.”

Blood Orange aka Devonté Hynes shared new songs “Something To Do” and “Dark & Handsome” on The Late Late Show with James Corden earlier this year. He will be on tour this summer through the fall.

Blood Orange: With Him/Best To You/Better Numb Official Video

Blood Orange combines “With Him,” “Best To You” and “Better Numb” into a short of him running through the streets, playing music, spending time with a girlfriend and dancing. Amandla Stenberg joins him on violin as he plays the double bass. The beginning of the clip is reminiscent of Marlon Riggs’s Black Is…Black Ain’t documentary.  The piece ends with Blood Orange doing a modern dance on stage and ending it by laying still on the floor.
