Throwback: Debra Laws-Very Special

Debra Laws is a member of the Laws family of musicians including her siblings Hubert, Ronnie and Eloise. She started singing professionally on her brother Ronnie’s 1977 album Friends And Strangers as a backing vocalist and was heard as a lead singer on Hubert’s “Family.” “Very Special” was her breakout single from her 1981 debut album of the same name. Hubert and Ronnie produced the album and Ronnie sang on “Very Special” with Debra. In 2007 Debra Laws sued Elektra and Warner Music over the use of “Very Special” in Jennifer Lopez’s “All I Have.” K.Michelle put Laws song back in the spotlight again on her 2013 hit song “V.S.O.P.”
