Tall Black Guy Remixes Craig Mack’s Flava In Ya Ear

Tall Black Guy has an end of the summer remix of the late Craig Mack’s “Flava In Ya Ear.” TBG puts the Bad Boy classic into his soul machine and wraps it in handclaps, Marvin Gaye’s “Soon I’ll Be Loving You Again” and a velvet bass. The remix is available via his Bandcamp page on September 14th but can be pre-ordered now. Earlier this year he released a reworking of Aretha Franklin’s “(To Be) Young Gifted & Black” called “Gifted People.”

Will Craig Mack’s legacy be fully acknowledged after his third album and documentary are released posthumously?

R.I.P. Craig Mack

[youtube id=”PMbELEUfmIA”] Craig Mack who spearheaded Diddy’s Bad Boy Movement with “Flava In Ya Ear” died yesterday at age 47 of heart failure. The 1994 single was one of the biggest songs that year and it announced the arrival of Bad Boy. The remix which featured LL Cool J, The Notorious B.I.G., Rampage and Busta Rhymes is considered one of the greatest posse cuts in rap. His debut album, Project: Funk da World came later that year but it was overshadowed by the popularity of The Notorious B.I.G.’s Ready To Die despite reaching Gold status. Mack’s second album, Operation: Get Down was released in 1997 after he left Bad Boy Records. He was never able to reach the success of “Flava In Ya Ear” again and soon left the music industry. Fans were shocked when a video of him attending church appeared online in the 2000s and it was revealed that he had become a pastor. The emcee had relocated to South Carolina and made a commitment to his religion that had some rumor mongers saying that he had joined a cult. Producer and longtime friend Alvin Toney was working on a documentary about and Mack saw him last week at his church in South Carolina. He told the New York Daily News that Mack knew he did not have long to live and had peacefully accepted his health status. Erick Sermon who is also one of Mack’s lifelong friends announced Twitter that he is in the process of finishing Mack’s third album. Several members of the hip-hop world have posted their tributes to Mack by remembering that magical time when “Flava In Ya Ear” ignited limitless freestyles and took over every place that hip-hop was heard.

Erick Sermon Returns With Come Thru Feat. Method Man, Craig Mack & Mr. Cheeks Has New Album Kickstarter

Erick Sermon is back with a new single featuring Mr. Cheeks, Method Man and Craig Mack called “Come Thru.” The song is not to be confused with “Come Thru” from his 2010 album Music. He described “Come Thru” to Rolling Stone as,

“A party record; a regular freestyle record. The mixture [of Method Man, Mr. Cheeks and Craig Mack] makes a good club record. Getting everyone to collaborate is like friends getting back together. Everyone who I’m on the record with I’m already friends with, so it’s like a normal get-together.”

Hip-hop fans are intrigued by Craig Mack’s verse because he sounds like his original flow but Sermon’s comment indicates that his contribution is new. “Come Thru” is from Sermon’s seventh album that does not have a title. He has Kickstarter campaign for the album and you can find out more about it here.
