Last night Erykah Badu hosted the Soul Train Awards and she introduced the first Soul Cypher with Chrisette Michele, Lalah Hathaway, K-Ci and Eddie Levert. The cypher is usually the work of rappers but each singer took their turn honouring the R&B, gospel and jazz roots of soul.

Chrisette Michele calls her new single, “Steady” trap-soul, and it’s a three-minute story about her past 10 years on two record labels, going independent and the rekindling of a romance that has her engaged and ready to marry.
