Throwback:Charlie Wilson-You Are

Charlie Wilson’s “You Are” is from his fifth album, Just Charlie. The lyrics, which were co-written by Wilson, describes the perfect romance and was sung with the emotions of a happy wedding day. “You Are” was another Adult Contemporary hit for Wilson but it resonated with listeners across generations. Those who were already in love felt more deeply and those who were single knew what their ideal relationship should look like every time Wilson sang. Just Charlie was part of a big year for Wilson and “You Are” was responsible for two of his 13 Grammy nominations. The former Gap Band singer also appeared on Kanye West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy that year. Wilson’s eighth album, In It To Win It, was released in 2017. At the beginning of 2021, he shared his picks for ESSENCE’s The Playlist.
