The Native Tongues Commemorating 30 Years With Festival

The Native Tongues are celebrating 30 years with their own festival that will debut in July. The ’90s rap collective that comprises De La Soul, The Jungle Brothers and Monie Love among others is having a concert at The Anthem in D.C. with a full lineup. Leaders Of The New School, Black Sheep, Chi-Ali, Jungle Brothers, DJ Red Alert, DJ Maseo from De La Soul, Jaroboi from A Tribe Called Quest, Brand Nubian, Da Bush Babees and The Fu-Schnickens will be in the building. The event will also honor late members Phife Dawg and Chris “Baby” Lighty and donate money to The National Diabetes Association and The National Suicide Prevention. 

The show will also raise money for the Omar Akil-directed Speaking In Tongues documentary that promises to tell the collective’s story. 

The Native Tongues Festival will take place July 18th at The Anthem in D.C. Tickets are on sale now.

Yo! MTV Raps Has 30th Anniversary Concert

[youtube id=”IvfJEDb85oo”] Tonight Yo! MTV Raps had a 30th-anniversary concert at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. MTV announced plans to reboot the show earlier this year and the concert was a prelude to the show’s return. MC Lyte, Positive K, KRS-One, Big Daddy Kane, Fat Joe, EPMD, Onyx, Brand Nubian, Eric B & Rakim, Yo-Yo, Special Ed, Pharcyde, DAS EFX, Black Sheep, Nice & Smooth, Kool Moe Dee, Doug E. Fresh and Kool G. Rap were there and transported the audience back to the ’80s and ’90s.

Sadat X of Brand Nubian Releases Solo Album Love, Hell Or Right

Brand Nubian alum Sadat X’s 9th solo effort Love, Hell Or Right was just released on the Canadian 6.8.2. imprint. DJ Spinna, Showbiz, Scram Jones, Grant Parks and Marco Polo have
produced songs from the collection. On the album title Sadat X explains,”You have to go through hell in order to do right. It’s dedicated to the hardworking people and not about fame and glory. Hip Hop spans the globe, its universal.
