Courtney B. Vance, Stan Lathan, Tyrese Gibson, Raphael Warnock, Jon Osoff, & Zaila Avant-Garde To Be Honored At 30th Bounce Trumpet Awards

The 30th Annual Bounce Trumpet Awards announces their honorees. Courtney B. Vance, Tyrese Gibson, Stan Lathan, Zaila Avant-Garde, Senators Raphael Warnock and Jon Osoff, and Princess Sarah Culbertson will be honored on Saturday, January 15th at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. Wendell Pierce, Sanaa Lathan, Tamron Hall and JB Smoove are among those to pay tribute to the honorees. There will be one part of the show where those who have fought for Black equality will be recognized as The Warrior Of Justices. The group includes: 

  • The NAACP, the largest and most pre-eminent civil rights organization in the nation led by Derrick Johnson, President and CEO.
  • Rainbow PUSH Coalition, the international human and civil rights organization founded by Rev. Jesse Jackson, one of America’s foremost civil rights, religious and political figures.
  • National Urban League, the nation’s largest historic civil rights and urban advocacy organization run by Marc Morial, President and CEO.
  • Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC), the African American civil rights organization closely associated with its first president, Martin Luther King Jr., led by current President and CEO Dr. Charles Steele, Jr. 

The awards show returns with its first live event since the COVID-19 shutdown. The replay of the event will air on  Martin Luther King Day, Jan.17 at 8 PM ET on Bounce TV. 

 

 




Bounce TV & Brown Sugar Celebrate Black History Month

 

Bounce TV and Brown Sugar will honor Black History Month with programming that will recognize the work and contributions of African Americans. Bounce’s schedule will include:

King– A three-part mini-series about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. starting from his days as a Baptist minister and activist to his 1968 untimely ending on the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis.Paul Winfield stars as King with a cast that includes Cicely Tyson, Howard E. Rollins Jr. and Ossie Davis. 

Southside With YouThe story of the 1989 afternoon when Barack and Michelle Obama had their first date in Chicago. 

Road To Freedom: The Vernon Johns Story- James Earl Jones stars as Veron John who preceded Martin Luther King Jr. as the minister of the Dexter Avenue Church in Montgomery, Alabama and is known as the father of the Civil Rights Movement. 

Brown Sugar’s curated collection for Black History Month is called A Change Is Gonna Come and includes documentaries and movies including: 

A Woman Called Moses– Cicely Tyson stars as Harriet Tubman the escaped slave who organized the Underground Railroad. 

Huey P. Newton: Prelude To A RevolutionHuey P. Newton was the Black Panther Minister of Defense and the film is a detailed look at his life. 

Michelle Obama: With Hope Comes Change– The 2019 documentary about Michelle Obama’s journey from a working-class family on the south side of Chicago to the first family in the White House.

Naomi Campbell, Yara Shahidi, Stacey Abrams & Tommie Smith To Be Honored At 2020 Bounce Awards

The Bounce Trumpet Awards has announced its 2020 honorees. This year’s 29th annual ceremony is called The Bounce Trumpet Awards: Stand Up and it is intended to recognize those who have chosen to fight the social injustices faced by African Americans. Georgia political leader Stacey Abrams will receive the Valor Award which honors the individual who faces conflict with bravery as she did with her Fair Fight Action voter awareness organization that worked to help facilitate a record turnout for the 2020 election. 

Yara Shahidi, who is known as an actress on the TV shows Grown-ish and Black-ish, will receive the Trailblazer Award.  The honor is for pioneers who inspire others to follow their path to greatness while challenging the status quo. Shahidi founded WeVoteNext (formerly Eighteen x 18) with Now This News to encourage voting for the 2018 and 2020 elections and has a partnership with the Young Women’s Leadership Network of New York. 

Supermodel Naomi Campbell will receive the Vanguard Award which recognizes those who share avant-garde ideas with the mainstream and makes a social impact in their field. Campbell has called out racism in the modeling industry and started charity relief efforts around the world for natural disasters. 

Former American Track and Field star Tommie Smith will receive the Xernona Clayton Award Of Distinction named after the esteemed founder of the Trumpets, which recognizes individuals who, having succeeded against immense odds, herald change, and prosperity to enhance and enrich the world. Smith’s silent gesture of protest at the 1968 Olympics continues to be a historic and enduring image for athletes and activists standing up against injustice today. 

Singer Mariah Carey, director Lee Daniels, actor and activist Jesse Williams, actor Trevor Jackson, political activist Angela Davis and former congressman Bakari Sellers will help to pay tribute to the honorees. 

Anthony Hamilton, Busta Rhymes, Bell Biv Devoe and Terrace Martin will provide the music. 

The Bounce Trumpet Awards will broadcast on Sunday, December 13th at 8:00 PM ET. 




Bounce Partners With Michelle Obama To Promote National Voter Registration Week

Bounce TV has partnered with Michelle Obama’s non-profit When We All Vote to increase participation in National Voter Registration Week Bounce and When We All Vote will work together to register African-American voters. Cheryle Harrison, General Manager for Bounce TV commented,
