D’Angelo & Bobby Seale Talk Politics

D’Angelo and Black Panther co-founder Bobby Seale met for the first time earlier this month in Oakland, California and their meeting was recorded by The New York Times. Their conversation is a timely one considering the fact that D’Angelo’s Black Messiah tackles politics as much as love. And it’s also a good time because the issue of police brutality was a major concern of The Black Panther’s and it’s become even more prevalent with Ferguson, Freddie Gray, Eric Garner, Oscar Grant III and so many other other instances. Together they discuss police in the community, the value of protesting and the social role of the artist. Read the whole interview here.

Bobby Seale, who is the founding chairman and organizer of The Black Panther Party is raising money to complete his film “Seize The Time: The Eigth Defendant.” The film is about his life and times in the Panther Party. It is highly important that a film like this is made because it offers Seale’s rare inside the misunderstood organization that made history in the ’60’s.
