Robert Glasper Pays Tribute To J.Dilla During Blue Note Residency

[youtube id=”jGZPAa-4a-A”]J.Dilla is one of the artists that Robert Glasper has paid tribute to during his current Blue Note residency that ends today. Last weekend Ma Dukes, T3 of Slum Village, Common, Bilal and James Poyser were there to remember Dilla’s music and life. In this clip, there are moments of “Raise It Up,” “Climax” “Fall In Love” “Thelonius,” “The Light” and “The Look Of Love.” This was Glasper’s second residency at the Blue Note and with his planning and the audience’s response, it looks like a possible annual event. Glasper’s Fuck Yo Feelings mixtape is out now. 




SWV & The Soul Cypher At The Soul Train Awards

[youtube id=”i8IjBoEM5wI”] The 2017 Soul Train Awards aired last night and Erykah Badu hosted the show again. She started the night by kneeling in reference to Colin Kaepernick’s NFL controversy. SWV performed a medley of their songs and were later joined by Method Man and U-God. The Soul Cypher featured Mali Music, Faith Evans, Fantasia and Bilal doing their best R&B ad-libbing. The Roots’ Tiny Desk Concert With Bilal

The Roots and Bilal with a horn section including Jeff Bradshaw perform a 12-minute concert of “It Ain’t Fair” for NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concerts. The song is from the Detroit soundtrack and their contribution to the music has become one of the most memorable things about the film.

The combination of Bilal, the orchestra and The Roots created emotions reflective of the tension Detroit’s 1967 riot and its aftermath. They gave one of the best shows ever on late night television.
