Nasty Gal: The Many Lives Of Funk Queen Betty Davis

Betty Mabry Davis was briefly married to Miles Davis in the late ’60’s for about 1 year. She is responsible for exposing Davis to Jimi Hendrix, Sly & The Family Stone and helping him develop a more modern look and image. He wrote a song about her for his Filles de Kilimanjaro album and her face is on the cover. In the ’70’s Betty branched out after the ending of her marriage to Miles and made 4 records of raw funk with an image that pre-dates the raunchiness of Millie Jackson and the freedom of Madonna. Directors Phil Cox and Damon Smith contacted Betty Davis a few years ago and received her blessing to make Nasty Gal: The Many Lives Of Funk Queen Betty Davis as an independent venture. They have launched an indiegogo campaign to raise money for the film and they are 57 days left to meet their 65,000 goal. Donate to the campaign here.
