Locksmith and Apollo Brown share their new song “Litmus” in anticipation of their of No Question album. It is a pared down combination of only Brown’s beat and Locksmith’s words, which Brown explains: 

“On “Litmus,” Lock just went off. He wanted a beat for this joint that didn’t have a lot going on, simple, but could still convey the feeling needed to shine a spotlight his vocals. Shit, he’s just one of those emcees that doesn’t need a beat at all, to be honest. Not alot of those [emcees] left. Dude’s just a monster.”

Detroit producer Apollo Brown and Richmond, California battle rapper Locksmith have worked together on a new album they call No Question. Today they debuted the title track and within three minutes Locksmith gets thoughtful about the religious prejudice he witnessed as a child, America’s classicism and the elevation of mythical heroes. Apollo Brown provides a dusty falsetto soul loop, strings and a tambourine which makes Locksmith sound like he’s rapping with Curtis Mayfield or The Stylistics. The full-length No Question album releases June 15th.  

In 2013, the Ghostface Killah and Apollo Brown Brown Tape was released. The Detroit producer was asked to make an album that was an alternate to Adrian Younge’s Twelve Reasons To Die album with Ghostface Killah. The stories about the underworld characters in Ghostface’s raps were narrated by Rza. The Brown Tape will be re-released on January 28th but you can immediately download “The Rise Of The Ghostface Killah” for free.

A Fort Greene deli and subway stop is the setting for Diego Cruz’s video that focuses on everyday life. Skyzoo and Apollo Brown released their Easy Truth album last fall and they are going on their European tour February 3rd.
