Patti Austin created the group of women artists to remind voters, especially women of the power they have to make a difference. Chaka Khan, Lisa Fischer, Lalah Hathaway,Dee Dee Bridgewater, India.Arie, Brenda Russell, Ledisi and Siedah Garrett have all made videos to share who the women are that inspired them to vote. Sheila E. and Terri Lyne Carrington provided music for the vignettes that have been airing daily. Tanika Ray will host the live stream tonight and there will be a special appearance from Angela Davis. Viewers are encouraged to use #WeAreTWIST2020 on social media.

Singer-songwriter, activist and one-third of the legendary LaBelle, Nona Hendryx in conjunction with Nubian Q.U.E.E.N.X.(Quantum, Unique, Evolving, Essence of Nubian Sistas) have partnered with feminist group JASS (Just Associates) to present Musical Meditation and Celebration of Radical Healing on Friday, August 14th. The online event is designed to celebrate human connectedness in the time of social unrest and political crisis with poetry, music and dance. Woman performers from around the world will participate with guest appearances from the author, professor and activist Angela Davis, singer and activist Cyndi Lauper, director, stage and screen actress Phylicia Rashad, tennis pioneer and activist Billie Jean King and poet, musician, playwright and author Joy Harjo. The event will stream exclusively on the StreamYard platform at 4 PM ET/1 PM PT/2 PM MT/7 PM UT. 

Hendryx will perform with New York collective Nubian Q.U.E.E.N.X. and they will perform a meditation on healing past traumas and answer questions about how to move forward. The artist explained the importance of the event, 

“By radical healing, we’re acknowledging the power of music to lift our spirits and connect us across all our differences. We recognize that we can’t build and sustain strong movements for the long haul with broken people who bear the brunt of crises and violence. We need moments of shared joy and connections as much as information and strategy. Some of the most amazing music ever created has been birthed from struggle.”

The virtual event will live stream on the StreamYard platform on August 14, 2020, at 4:00 PM EST. Hendryx, who is a former member of the legendary LaBelle, said this about the event:

Hendryx will perform with the New York-based collective Nubian Q.U.E.E.N.X. (Quantum, Unique, Evolving, Essence of Nubian Sistas), a musical meditation on the affirmation of healing traumas of the past and present while answering questions and exploring ways to move forward. First presented at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., in September 2019 with special guests Divinity Roxx, Be Steadwell, Liza Jessie Peterson, the group will be joined by Sophia Ramos for the August 14^th performance. Q.U.E.E.N.X. is a multi-generational, multi-disciplinary blending of music, spoken word, hip-hop, funk, rock, and avant-garde. 

Marin County courthouse incident. Davis was shunned by most Americans because of her Communist views but Franklin openly supported her campaign to be freed. Davis talks about this time and what Franklin means to her history. She also speaks on Franklin’s contribution to feminism and how her singing inspired people to want a better America.
