This is the first clip of Andre 3000 as Jimi Hendrix in John Ridley’s All Is By My Side. In this clip Andre as Jimi tells then-girlfriend Kathy Etchingham in his best Hendrix voice that he wrote “Red House” for her. The film will make its US debut at SXSW this month.

John Ridley’s Jimi: All Is By My Side will screen for a second time at SXSW this year. The film focuses on Jimi Hendrix’s life between the years of 1966 and 1967. As usual the Hendrix estate denied usage of Hendrix’s music so Ridley used blues artists that inspired Hendrix and ’60’s rock. The film debuted at the Toronto Film Festival last Fall and received good reviews.

This is the first official photo of Andre 3000 in costume as Jimi Hendrix for John Ridley’s film All Is By My Side. The image is from the Toronto Film Festival website where the film will premiere on August 20th. The Hendrix estate did not grant the director permission to use Hendrix’s actual music but Andre 3000 will do covers of Beatles’ songs that Hendrix performed and recorded. We are all curious to see the film especially since the real music will not be used but with Andre playing the lead Hendrix’s desire to reach
people beyond the rock and roll industry demographic will be achieved.
