Andre 3000 talked with David Letterman about his role as Jimi Hendrix in “Jimi: All Is By My Side.” The movie is playing now around the country.

Channel 4 in the U.K. interviewed Andre 3000 and he talked about Jimi Hendrix and the eventual eradication of racism. Jimi: All Is By My Side hits the theaters tomorrow.

Forty-four years ago today Jimi Hendrix died under suspicious circumstances and his genius that had so much more to give was quelled. Since his death several attempts at making a worthwhile film about his life ran into roadblocks. John Ridley’s Jimi: All Is By Side, starring Andre 3000 will enter theaters on September 26th. Ridley’s film also had problems with the Hendrix Estate regarding the usage of his original music. The issue has been avoided with the focus on Hendrix’s life before fame and the inclusion of his covers of other people’s songs like “Hey Joe.”

The first official trailer for Jimi: All Is By My Side was released today. Andre 3000’s role as Hendrix in 1966 is complicated by the lack of Hendrix’s music. But Andre 3000’s profile will still take Hendrix to another generation.
