Documentary On 808 Drum Machine Gets Release Date

The documentary about the 808 drum machine has a release date of December 9th via Apple Music and iTunes a week later. 808 is narrated by Zane Lowe of the Beats 1’s radio show and has commentary from Africa Bambaataa, Questlove, Pharrell, Goldie, Damon Albarn, Rick Rubin, Jimmy Jam, Terry Lewis, Jellybean Benitez and more. Filmmaker Alexander Dunn traveled to Japan to interview Roland founder Ikutaro Kakehashi who talks about the machine’s disappearance.

Alexander Dunn is the first-time director of “808” the new film about Roland’s TR-808 drum machine. The studio tool was legendary in the way it was used by so many pop culture luminaries in the dance music and hip-hop worlds. Dunn interviews countless individuals including Afrika Bambaataa and Rick Rubin about the usage of the machine and how the sound of the times until it was discontinued. There is no exact release date but it will come out sometime in 2015.
