Nas & Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley To Collaborate For Camp Bisco VIII

Atlanta, Georgia (May 7, 2009) – Continuing the tradition of onstage collaborations; Camp Bisco VIII, the eighth annual three-day music and arts festival in Mariaville, New York this July 16-18, 2009 will play host to one of it’s most eclectic pairings yet, when Nas & Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley take the stage together. The two have worked together before on ‘Road to Zion’, the second single from Marley’s breakthrough Grammy award winning third album, “Welcome to Jamrock.” This summer will see them expanding upon that collaboration as they showcase tracks from their forthcoming album along with a few of their own originals with Damian’s live band.

The news of “Distant Relative,” slated for an early June release, has Camp Bisco fans enthused by the prospect of seeing these two legends on stage together. The combination of Nas and Marley may seem strange at first, but the son of Jamaican music legend Bob Marley and the legendary NYC rapper share a common ideology when it comes to music. Damian has created his own identity and legendary status with a type of reggae that borrows heavily from both dancehall and hip-hop. Past collaborations with such rappers as Method Man, Red Man, and Snoop Dogg (who performed at last summer’s annual Camp Bisco event), make Nas a logical next step on his musical path.

Camp Bisco has always been a culturally eclectic festival with a very diverse musical lineup. Past performers have included: Snoop Dogg, Thievery Corporation, Cut Chemist, DJ Shadow, MSTRKRFT, The Roots, Infected Mushroom, STS9 (Sound Tribe Sector 9), Shpongle, Younger Brother, Brazilian Girls, Girl Talk, Bassnectar, and !!!. This year’s lineup is no different, including: The Disco Biscuits – All 3 Nights; Nas & Damian ‘Jr. Gong’ Marley; STS9 (2 nights); DFA Disco Tent; Twisted Records All Star Tent; Chromeo; Dr. Dog; K’Naan; The Orb; Younger Brother; Special Disco Version James Murphy & Pat Mahoney of LCD Soundsystem; Flying Lotus; Pretty Lights; Shpongle; EOTO; Holy Ghost; Orchard Lounge; John Brown’s Body; Telepath; Boombox; Martyn, BioDiesel with KJ Sawka; AC Slater; Phantogram; MO2; DJ Haitian; Fort Knox Five; Kill the Noise; Prometheus; Ott; Starkey; Bluetech; Indobox; Roots of Creation; Joe Nice; Tuphace; Otherwise; Dirty Paris and more.

Camp Bisco VIII will once again be held at the picturesque Indian Lookout Country Club in Mariaville, New York. The venue will be set-up with two performance stages and a third late night dance tent. The Indian Lookout Country Club is located approximately 20 minutes travel time from Albany, New York, and sits on 200 acres of rolling, flat grass fields. The grounds come equipped with full bathrooms; which include flush toilets and showers, as well as 24/7 bathroom attendants. Festival goers will have access to a full bar on site and a general store, which sells almost every necessity for a comfortable and care free experience.

Tickets are available online at www.campbisco.net and 1-800-594-TIXX, as well as at all FYE stores in New England and select outlets in New York state. VIP packages will be made available for an additional $250 per 3 day ticket purchase. Travel packages which include; a ticket to the event, 3 night hotel stay and unlimited shuttle service to and from Camp Bisco will be made available. 15 cents of every ticket sold will be donated to Trees For The Future, an organization that has been the steward of planting trees throughout the world since the early 1970s in an effort to remedy the effects of illegal logging and unsustainable land management systems on the world’s developing communities. BE-Green ticket upgrades will also be sold for an additional $2.50. Funds raised by the BE-Green upgrades will be used to offset carbon emissions through the use of renewable energy sources.

Camp Bisco VIII is presented by MCP Presents and hosted by The Disco Biscuits.

Announcement – Playing for Change “One Love”

Los Angeles, Calif. (February 6, 2009) — In conjunction with Bob Marley’s 64th world-wide birthday celebration on February 6th, Playing For Change, the cross-cultural global musical movement, will debut their version of Marley’s timeless classic “One Love” on www.BobMarley.com. This five-minute video is a song from around the world featuring American blues wunderkind Keb’ Mo and Spain ’s Manu Chao playing with an incredible group of 35 musical artists. “One Love” was produced by Playing for Change’s creator and driving force Mark Johnson , the Los Angeles based Grammy®-winning producer and engineer.

Playing For Change is a multimedia movement designed to inspire, connect and bring peace to the world through music. For ten years Johnson and his team traveled the globe, with a single-minded passion to record little-known musicians and combine their performances. Bill Moyers called it a remarkable example of “the simple yet transformative power of music…to touch something in each of us.” Variety acknowledged it as “a great showcase for just what incredible, thoroughly accessible popular music is being made worldwide.”

Bob Marley’s 64th birthday will be celebrated by millions around the globe through live performance, lectures, film festivals, the internet and beyond. For Bob Marley Day, in addition to the debut of the Playing for Change “One Love” video, the site will be running special promotions in line with Bob Marley’s legacy. BobMarley.com invites submissions of Birthday messages through the Bob Marley Forum hosted on the site. Bob’s daughter, Cedella Marley, has also put her hand to a special limited T-Shirt design for the occasion that will promote the Playing for Change concept with her father’s legacy. “The Global vision of Bob Marley lives on through the ‘One Love’ video by Playing For Change” says Chris Blackwell, founder Island Records.
