Detroit’s American Black Journal celebrated Black Music Month with guest Regina Carter yesterday. Ms. Carter, who is from Detroit, is touring her current album, Southern Comfort. She discusses her path to becoming a jazz violinist, early musical opportunities in Detroit and how she researched her family for her last two albums. Carter will be appearing at the Detroit Jazz Festival this year on Labor Day.

Al Jarreau pays tribute to the late George Duke and their 50 year friendship with the new CD, My Old Friend: Celebrating George Duke. Jarreau sings a number of Duke’s tunes with personnel that includes Lalah Hathaway, Stanley Jordan, Marcus Miller, Dianne Reeves, Jeffrey Osborne, Gerald Albright, Kelly Price and Dr. John. The album comes out August 15th but it can be pre-ordered via PledgeMusic. Don Cheadle Has An Indiegogo Campaign For Miles Davis Film

Don Cheadle has launched an Indiegogo campaign for his Miles Davis biopic, Miles Ahead. The goal is to raise $325,000 by July 10 to make the film he has been working on since 2007. The Miles Davis estate supports his efforts to make the film that he intends to shoot this summer. Cheadle will play Davis in the project that focuses on a few days in his life after he emerged from a career hiatus.
