Jazz Is Dead Share Sumaré From Album With Azymuth

Ali Shaheed Muhammad and Adrian Younge’s Jazz Is Dead series has its next addition coming with Brazilian jazz-funk trio Azymuth.  “Sumaré” is named after the city in São Paulo, Brazil and it embodies the mellowed out grooves of the band’s better known moments. The single is available now and the official album will be released at the end of October with the option to pre-order vinyl. 

 




Georgia Anne Muldrow Gives First Listen Of Mama, You Can Bet!

Georgia Anne Muldrow’s “Mama, You Can Bet!” is the title track of her upcoming jazz album. The song is dedicated to Muldrow’s mother Rickie Byars who has an extensive past in jazz having worked with people like Pharoah Sanders and Roland Hanna. The album is the third to be released under Muldrow’s Jyoti moniker. Piano, percussion and Muldrow’s vocals express the beauty Muldrow sees in her mother and how she is deserving of romantic love. “Mama, You Can Bet!” follows the song “Orgone” released earlier this summer. The new album officially comes out on August 28th and can be pre-ordered.

Robert Glasper, 9th Wonder, Kamasi Washington and Terrace Martin have released an album as Dinner Party. The jazz, hip-hop, soul project has a comfort zone between 9th Wonder’s production and the live approach from the musicians and guest singers. The warm vibes of the album address love and the current strife in the country around the response to police brutality. The friends and colleagues chose the Dinner Party moniker to reflect years of friendship, conversations over dinner and working together.

The project born of sessions that took place in 2018 is in the same family as Ayers’ prime output in the ’70s. The trio wrote all of the songs together that meet at the crossroads of jazz and soul. The smoky set starts the summer with renewed grooves atop a legendary foundation of fusion. The album is available digitally, in CD form and vinyl.Â
