Sillygirlcarmen and producer JackLndn have linked together for “Maze.” The progressive house single presents sillygirlcarmen’s words with fluttery rhythms, a purring synthesizer and a bit of electro imprinting on her vocals. “Maze” explores the emotions of love and attraction in a sonic profile that has pop stylings as well as house. The duo has plans to release more music in the future and remixes of “Maze” from Delano Smith, Glenn Underground and Manoo are on the way. Crystal Waters’ “2B Luv” has been remixed by Todd Terry and David Morales in time for Valentine’s Day. David Anthony who produced the original version is also on the remixes.  “2B Luv” debuted in 2022 and  Sir Charles Dixon, Ricky Nelson aka Housewerq and Stone Bridge produced the first round of remixes. Waters is still just as excited about making dance music as she was back in 1991 when her classic “Gypsy Woman (She’s Homeless)” took over global dance floors. She commented on the resurgence of house music in the mainstream in a press release.

“As a person who was told dance music wasn’t real music, that it was just a fad, I’m very happy to see it alive and well after 30 years. I see now in the underground clubs that the kids are back to dancing and feeling the music. There’s a real, new culture and community around House music. I think TV shows like “Pose” gave people an idea of what it was like in the underground scene in the 90s, a little history if you will. And of course when the Queen, Beyonce, crowned it with “Break my Soul”, there was no turning back.”

Beyoncé has cited Waters as one of the major influences behind her Renaissance album. 

“2B Luv” is urbane with gospel roots under Morales’ fingers while Todd Terry accelerates the energy and adds a heavier bottom to the beat. The end result is a new house jam from three legends at work. Waters saluted their work ; “Todd put his foot in this mix! I love it..He took it to a level I couldn’t have imagined, he is the God! David is a master, you can feel every bit of love he put into his mix, he got the song, he got the vibe, it’s just beautiful.”  Waters has come full circle in her ability to create lasting dance anthems with “2B Luv.” 

Honey Dijon’s name has been buzzing since she appeared on Beyoncé’s Renaissance album but the dance music veteran is more than 20 years deep in the world of house music. Her pedigreed status starts with her beginning as an avid clubgoer in her native Chicago where house music gets its beginnings. She later became an underground DJ and started working as a producer in 2000. Black Girl Magic is her sophomore album. The ride which is eight-minutes shy of an hour shows Dijon’s house heritage and her ability to stretch out with disco and New Jack Swing. She has company with guest appearances from Chicago house producer Mike Dunn and Detroit vocalist Rimarkable, like Ramona Renee. She started writing the album in 2019 with thoughts about her early days as a new house music fan. Her days at the Music Box listening to legendary DJ Ron Hardy is remembered on “Downtown.” She also pays homage to Grace Jones with “La Femme Fantasique. The death of George Floyd and the subsequent rise of Black Lives Matter became an unexpected influence on Black Girl Magic. Dijon, who is a transwoman, felt it was important to advocate for love and for people to support their own beliefs and those things inspired the songs “Love Is,” “Love Is A State Of Mind” and “Stand.” 

Dijon told Forbes in regards to the title of the album, “Liberation for Black women is liberation for all women. Liberation for Black people is liberation for all people. Liberation for trans people is liberation for all people. When one of us is free, all of us are free, so what all of these movements are about is fighting for our humanity.”

Carl Craig is taking his Detroit Love DJ set to Washington D.C. for a rare event at The Depot on Saturday, November 19th. Craig will be joined by Detroit’s Godmother of House Stacey “Hotwaxx” Hale, Kevin Saunderson’s Inner City and Juan Atkins feat. Milan Ariel. Detroit Love is about bringing together and supporting the sounds of Detroit and taking a little of the techno brotherhood to clubs and festivals the world over. Craig says, “Love is what I have for my city, Detroit.” 

Craig is one of the founders of The Movement Music Festival in Detroit and has released over 100 electronic music tracks and albums on his influential Planet E label including his Innerzone Orchestra collaboration with Herbie Hancock. Kevin Saunderson’s Inner City hit paydirt in the ’80s with the anthems “Big Fun” and “Good Life.” He also released groundbreaking singles under his many aliases including Tronikhouse, E-Dancers and Reese & Santonio. His son Dantiez Saunderson is now a member of Inner City. 

Stacey “Hotwaxx” Hale is the first woman to play house music on Detroit radio. She made a name for herself in the city for her flawless mixing and for winning several DJ competitions. Her legacy continues with current residencies at Spotlite and Marble Bar. 

Juan Atkins is known as one of the Belleville Three which is comprised of him, Saunderson and Derrick May for creating Detroit Techno. Atkins is responsible for seminal tracks like “Cosmic Car,” “Alleys Of Your Mind” and “Clear” as Cybotron. He will be joined by his daughter Milan Ariel for a live set. 

The doors open at 10 PM and the party ends at 5 AM. Tickets are available here. The show is presented by Flash DC and will be one of the last before The Depot warehouse closes on New Year’s Day.
