“I Go To Work“ was the second single released from Kool Moe Dee’s 1989 album, Knowledge Is King. The New York City rap legend had moved on from his most successful album, How Ya Like Me Now, two years earlier. Knowledge Is King had the same production crew of Teddy Riley, Pete Q. Harris, LaVaba Mallison, and Kool Moe Dee himself. Their combined efforts created the action-movie horns and the fast, rumbling drums that complemented Kool Moe Dee’s swift rapping style. “I Go To Work” conquered clubs, made it up the charts, and was rotated on college and urban radio. Knowledge Is King had four singles in total, and the album was certified gold within three months of its release. Kool Moe Dee reaffirmed his role as a founding hip-hop father with Knowledge Is King, building on his legacy as a solo artist after his days with The Treacherous Three. In 2026, “I Go To Work” is still entrancing old fans and new.
