Prince’s “Anotherloverholenyohead” is featured on his 1986 album Parade. The album was Prince’s eighth studio effort and served as the soundtrack to his film, Under the Cherry Moon. A track of sensuous funk, “Anotherloverholenyohead” features Prince performing most of the instruments himself, with backing vocals by Susannah Melvoin, horns by Eric Leeds and Atlanta Bliss, and a string arrangement by Clare Fischer. Lyrically, the song follows a man trying to convince his lover not to leave him for someone else.
Parade marked another sonic shift for Prince, seamlessly encompassing jazz, R&B, and pop. While the album was another critical and commercial success, Under the Cherry Moon was initially considered a box-office disappointment; however, since Prince’s passing, the film has undergone a positive critical reappraisal. Parade also stands as the final studio album to credit Prince’s band, The Revolution.
The music video for “Anotherloverholenyohead” was filmed at Cobo Hall in Detroit on Prince’s 28th birthday—June 7, 1986. Decades later, Parade remains a key album of 1986 and a landmark of Prince’s creative prime. In June 2026, thousands of fans went to Minneapolis for Prince’s 10th Anniversary Celebration of Life to acknowledge Prince’s 68th posthumous birthday. Chaka Khan, The Time, Bootsy Collins, and more also participated in the event.
