Throwback: Method Man & Redman: Da Rockwilder

Method Man and Redman 2016

“Da Rockwilder” is the most popular song from Method Man and Redman’s first collaboration album, Blackout. Redman disliked the beat created by his old friend Rockwilder but Method Man loved it. The difference in their reception to the production resulted in Redman rushing through his one verse and the song having no chorus.

“Da Rockwilder” was the shortest song on Blackout but it was the strongest advertisement for the album. Dave Meyers directed the video that became a staple on MTV and BET and received a Video of the Year nomination at the 2000 Source Awards.

The success of Blackout led to Method Man and Redman reaching the height of their collaborative efforts that had existed since 1994 with the making of the stoner film How High released in 2001. Blackout 2 came along in 2009 and they released the Blackout Ten Year Reunion Mixtape to promote it.

Method Man’s third solo album, Meth Lab Season 3: The Rehab was released in 2022. In 2025, he appeared on “Outta Control” with Redman. The Wu-Tang Clan member is currently working on a collaboration album, Dirty P, with Havoc from Mobb Deep. The album is tribute to their fallen bandmates Ol’ Dirty Bastard and Prodigy. Method Man has a starring role in the Amazon Prime feature Relationship Goals. Redman released Muddy Waters Too in 2024.
