Daptone Records is releasing a 20th anniversary edition of Sharon Jones’ Naturally. The new release has all of the songs remastered with instrumentals. The vinyl pressing includes 2 standard black LPs; orange vinyl for indie shops and the Daptone store will have clear vinyl with orange splatter. Naturally was originally released in 2005 and it was a breakthrough moment for the late Jones and the Dap-Kings because they defied the notion that a soul star had to be of a certain age and sound. Naturally sold a quarter of a million copies, which was a major win for an independent release. The album also was the starting point for the Dap-Kings’ collaboration with Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse. “How Long Do I Have To Wait” and “This Land Is Your Land” were the hit singles from Naturally.
Sharon Jones and The Dap-Kings went from playing small venues to making their first television appearance on the Conan O’Brien Show on the strength of Naturally. Jones was well on her way to being called the female James Brown thanks to her energetic performances and undiluted soul music. The 20th Anniversary edition of Naturally comes out on May 2nd, two days before Jones’ May 4th birthday. You can preorder the album now.
