Ravyn Lenae’s Bird’s Eye sophomore album drops two years after her HYPNOS debut. The singer is mostly alone, except for appearances from Childish Gambino on the heartbreak ode “One Wish” and Ty Dolla, who duets with her on the new relationship aspirations of “Dream Girl.” Dahi executive produced the album that Lenae describes as deeply reflective. She says,
“One of the most beautiful things about making ‘Bird’s Eye’ was the amount of reflection that was required to truly tell a story that felt clear and honest. Digging into the nooks + crannies of my journey so far was so rewarding in many ways, but it’s most meaningful when it manifests into tangible change in my life.”
The singer stays true to her R&B roots but the effervescent “Candy” brings reggae into the mix. The expansion of her palette is also present in the alternative ambitions of “Genius.” Lenae’s purr charms and invites you into her world with songs that linger in memory long after ending. She is at her best on “Bad Idea,” conveying regretful love moves with pinball machine electronic blips blinking with thoughtful bars of piano in between. Bird’s Eye reintroduces Lenae as one of the more interesting R&B singers of her generation. The tour to support the album starts in September and travels through more than a dozen cities worldwide. Tickets for the tour are on sale now.
