Lava La Rue announces their debut album STARFACE and shares the video for “Push N Shuv.” The single is influenced by ’80s alternative and Karma Kid produced the song that unapologetically shows love to the Tom Tom Club’s “Genius Of Love.” The London-based Lava states,
“I wrote “Push N Shuv” 5 years ago before COVID (the vocals you hear on the song are still my 21-year-old voice) and I knew when I wrote it in 2019 that if I made an album, that’s what I wanted it to sound like. It’s literally been years in the making and honing in on that sound and it only feels fitting that this is the song that I announce the album with.”
Lava La Rue co-directed the “Push N Shuv” video with Claryn Chong alongside MrMr Films. The video introduces Rue’s STARFACE alter-ego before landing on Earth for the first time. Rue’s last project was the Hi Fidelity EP from 2022. STARFACE has a sci-fi narrative embedded within music influenced by funk, alt-rock, and dance. The album has collaborations with tendai, Cuco, Audrey Nuna, and more. Rue’s debut is about looking at the things that make us human and why we are so self-destructive. STARFACE will be available on June 21st via Dirty Hit.
