Eddie Kendricks recorded “Date With The Rain” for his 1972 solo album People…Hold On. Songwriter Bobby Miller successfully co-wrote hits like “Stay In My Corner” and “O-O I Love You” for The Dells. He wrote the euphoric “Date With The Rain” and co-produced it with Frank Wilson and Leonard Caston Jr. Kendricks sang in his candied falsetto about disguising a tearful heartbreak in the rain. People..Hold On was his breakout album because of the single “Girl, You Need A Change Of Mind,” which was an early disco record but “Date With The Rain” had its own pulse on the dancefloor. In 1990, house music artist Jamie Principle recorded a cover of “Date With The Rain.” In 1999, the Eddie Kendrick Memorial Park was dedicated to Kendrick in his native Birmingham, Alabama. He was posthumously inducted into the National Rhythm & Blues Hall Of Fame in 2019. The musical Ain’t Too Proud The Life And Times Of The Temptations returned to the stage in August of 2023. Rapper Kendrick Lamar is named after Eddie Kendricks.
