Mr. Eazi has revealed the release date of his first solo album and released the video for “Chop Time, No Friend.” The Nigerian singer-songwriter worked with a variety of international producers over the last two years to create the 16-song album. Thirteen artists from eight African countries were commissioned to make artwork for every song. Andre Vibez, the producer behind Selena Gomez’s “Calm Down,” produced “Chop Time, No Friend” which returns to the Banku sound pioneered by Mr. Eazi. He explained the title in a press release: “It means when you are eating, you don’t think about anybody. You are just focused on your enjoyment.” South African artist Sinalo Ngcaba created the artwork for “Chop Time, No Friend” and she was also the creator of the cover art for Mr. Eazi’s dance music project Chop Life, Vol. 1: Mzansi Chronicles. The album comes out on October 27th and the artwork will be featured in a multi-sensory experience in Lagos and Accra before leaving to appear at the I-54 Contemporary African Art Fair at Somerset in London from October 12-15 and then New York. The untitled album can be pre-ordered now. The video for “Chop Time, No Friend” was shot in Dakar by Allison Swank Owen.
