James Brown marked “Out Of Sight” as a time when he and his band moved into a different musical direction. Brown’s ideas were creating the foundations of funk with punchy horn phrases, bluesy rhythms and a percussive vocal style. “Out Of Sight” was saxophonist Maceo Parker’s first recording with Brown and the beginning of their professional relationship that lasted until the ’90s. Parker’s playing was one of the elements Brown used to develop funk music. Brown recorded song under the name Ted Wright for Smash because of a contractual dispute he was having with the King label. “Out Of Sight” was a hit on the pop and R&B charts in 1964. The album of the same name was released and then quickly taken off the market. King re-released the song in 1968 on the album James Brown Sings Out Of Sight. Augusta, Georgia voters will have a chance to vote in the fall 2023 election on HB 230 which would create a special tax to fund a James Brown Arena.
