Jonathan Butler has announced his Ubuntu album and shares the lead single of the same title. The instrumental’s name has its own story as Butler explains it is “A philosophy based in South Africa and spread by Archbishop Desmond Tutu which states, ‘I am me because of you. You are you because of me. We are not separate. We are connected.’” Marcus Miller produced Ubuntu with guest appearances from Stevie Wonder, Butler’s wife violinist Nadira Kimberley Scruggs and blues singer Keb ‘Mo’. The South African native’s five-decade career commercially peaked in the ’80s with love-oriented hits like”Lies” and “Sarah Sarah.” But the artist was always concerned with spreading unity ideals because of the apartheid he experienced growing up in South Africa. Desmond Tutu’s creed brought Butler back to his hometown roots as well as the George Floyd incident in America which compelled him to write “Our Voices Matter.” Butler’s 28th album comes out on April 28th and can be pre-ordered. He will be touring Europe and the United States throughout the summer.
