Masego’s You Never Visit Me Tour had a soldout night at the Royal Oak Music Theater in metro Detroit Saturday (3/25) night. The mostly American city outing is in support of his newly released self-titled sophomore album. The TrapHouseJazz extraordinaire charmed his eclectic cross-generational audience with a fan-centric setlist supported by his thunderous band. “What You Wanna Try” was especially warm to the crowd with its line about “being in Detroit with Khadijah.” The newer songs were mixed with past favorites including a call-and-response-led “Yamz” and the remix of “Mystery Woman.”

Masego’s energy provided equal feats of entertainment with his singing, keyboard playing and melodious saxophone. The crowd followed him note for note with vivacious singalongs followed by roaring applause. Later in the show he felt inspired and asked the crowd for permission to make a beat and then proceeded to freestyle some of the rhythm.

He gave a good dose of his Masego album; “You Never Visit Me” and “I’m (So Gemini)” were also included in the show. The Jamaican flag hung from his microphone stand to represent a part of his heritage and he also repped for rock stars when he flung a woman’s bra around in the air. One lady was brought onstage and serenaded by his sax and several women caught the roses he threw into the audience. Masego’s sophomore album tour brought a live experience that was manna for the fans.
