Singer-songwriter Joyce Sims died on October 14th at age 63. Her death was announced by events organizer CJ Carlos on a Facebook post. Sims is known for her 1987 hit single “Come Into My Life” which was produced by Kurtis Mantronik. The Rochester, New York native was signed to the now-defunct Sleeping Bag Records. Her debut album was released that year and it was named after the song which she penned along with the rest of the tracklisting except for a cover of Barbara Acklin’s “Love Makes A Woman.” She had her first chart success with “(You Are My) All and All” in 1986 but her 1987 hit became her calling card. Sims was from Rochester, New York, and was one of few women in the ’80s to write, play an instrument and sing her own music. She also charted with “Lifetime Love,” “Walk Away” and “Looking For A Love.” Sims was heard in samples used by Snoop Dogg, Angie Stone and Randy Crawford. At the time of her death, she was planning for the release of a new album this year and she was scheduled to perform in Portugal next year.
