BOOTY is a Los Angeles R&B group led by songwriter and producer Edan Frei and Adam Epelbaum. Their R&B aesthetic has the ’70s written all over it which can bring Shuggie Otis to mind but they also have some sonic correlates to Toro y Moi’s contemporary sound. “Matter Of Time” is their first single and it features Carl McIntosh from beloved ’80s UK soul group Loose Ends. They shared the inspiration for the song in a statement:
Frei says, “In addition to it being a love song, it’s just that idea of whatever it is you’re going for, if you really believe in it, it’s just a matter of time.”
“Coming from an improv background, free-styling melodies and lyrics is one of my absolute joys,” Epelbaum enthuses. “Despite our band name, we definitely take the music-making process seriously.”
“Matter Of Time” is from their forthcoming album which is being produced by one-third of Sa-Ra Creative Parters and Grammy-winning producer Om’Mas Keith. Adrian Miller and Keith co-founded the Tiny Universe label which will release BOOTY’s debut album. Their 2019 High Art EP was a Geffen release. Once they left Geffen Miller was able to add them to the Tiny Universe family. “Matter Of Time” will be heard on Issa Rae’s first episode of Rap Shit via HBO on July 21, 2022. The group has summer shows scheduled in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago.
