Dave Schulz has covered “You Get What You Give” by ’90s alternative rock band New Radicals. Schulz assembled a posse of rockers from various bands to participate on the song and the quarantine video. Angelo Moore of Fishbone, Cherie Currie of the Runaways, Bumblefoot from Guns N’ Roses, Robby Takac of Goo Goo Dolls and more take turns singing their verse. Schulz, who is a keyboardist, producer and composer, explained the lineup,

“I’ve known Robby [Takac] most of my life having grown up in Buffalo and of course from touring with the Goo Goo Dolls. It was great to work with him on this. In addition to Robby, I specifically chose members of different bands that spanned a wide array of styles and decades to contribute to this project. I really wanted to appeal to as wide an audience as possible. Not only is this one of my favorite songs, but the message couldn’t be more potent than it is today. It touches on music venues shutting down. It can also be re-interpreted as a hopeful meditation against the general turmoil and frustration stemming from health and political issues dominating the world. I believe we did the song justice.”

Coincidentally, The New Radicals reunited this year to sing “You Get What You Give” at Joe Biden’s inauguration and Vice President Kamala Harris used the song on her campaign trail.

Schulz believes the song is perfect for uncertain times because of the uplifting message.
